Jes Special , Thakkali & Parippu /Tomato & Yellow Lentil Curry (Yellow Lentil +Tomato +Coconut ) Onam Special from Jes's Kitchen ! RECIPE #316





Step 1:- Soak   Parippu / yellow lentils   ( 1 cup ,  2-4 hours ) and cook  it by adding  green chillies ( 4-5 nos)  , garlic ( 6-8 cloves )  and salt .





( instant pot -18 minutes on high /  Microwave- 12 minutes on high / Pressure cooker 3-4 whistles )  .





Then allow to cool it and grind them in to a smooth paste and set aside . .





Step 2:-  Grind Coconut ( 1/2 - 3/4   cup   )  , and cumin seeds  ( 3/4 - 1 teaspoon) into  a smooth paste . And keep aside .







Step 3:-  Chop onion (  finely , one medium sized /3/4-1   cup   )  , and garlic   (finely 3-4 cloves   )  . And keep aside .





Step 4:-  Chop tomato  (  as in the pic below ,  2 medium sized  )  . And keep aside .


Step 5:- Heat a pan and add  oil  ( any vegetable oil ,  2 -3  teaspoons   ) and  splutter mustard seeds ( 2 teaspoons ) ,   and add   red dried chillies ( 4-5 nos )  .



and  now add  step 3 onion and garlic  and saute until the onion become golden brown in color and now add curry leaves ( 2 twigs ) , 




and  BRING DOWN THE FLAME AND ADD   turmeric powder( 1  1/4 teaspoons )  , kashmiri chilli powder ( 1/2 teaspoon ) 




Now add the tomato , and cook for 4-5 minutes on medium flame . 

Step 6:- Now add  the step 1 and step 2 paste , combine and add salt and  water ( 1/2 -3/4 cup )  and boil it .
